My Full Travel Photography Set Up - Summer 2025
In this blog I will share with you my travel and photography set up for summer 2025. To be specific this is my bread and butter set up, so whilst I still have other cameras that I will take for weekends away or family trips, this is what I will always bring with me when photo / video is the primary reason for travel. As the title suggests, this is what I use for warmer months and climates, there will be a separate blog for colder climates later in the year. Finally for the full list of all my gear, please see the gear page.
Bags
Bellroy Transit Travel Pack Pro
This is my main travel bag where I keep almost everything. I love this bag because it’s fairly compact, yet can be expanded to 38L for longer trips. The padding is good, however I would have loved a hip strap to help spread the weight. While it’s too big for a personal item for most airlines, it’s well within the carry-on limits. You can also read the full review here
Bellroy Venture 10L Camera Sling
This is my main sling that I will use day to day and have as my personal item for flights. You can read the full review here.
Bellroy Venture 6L Sling
Instead of using an accessory pouch, I am using the Bellroy 6L sling. This goes in the main bag and will house all the lenses, second body and electronics. It’s also a good backup for the main sling and offers a smaller footprint for days when I only want to have one lens / body.
Bellroy Lite Packing Pouch 3L
This is a tiny and light pouch that I use for cables and small items. It lives inside the 6L sling in the bag.
Peak Design Medium Compression Cube
I use this for all my clothes. Despite trying many other brands, I am yet to find a more practical packing cube.
Cameras
Sony A7RV
This is my main camera that I use for 90% of all photo and video work. I won’t go into details here, so you can read the initial impressions blog here.
Sony A7CII
This is my backup camera as well as dedicated vlog / video setup. I don’t use it as much, however it’s an amazing camera. There will be more blogs about it soon.
DJI Action 5
This is my POV / action camera of choice. It’s great for getting POV footage when out and about. While the DJI Pocket 3 provides better video quality, the Action 5 is more practical due to a robust build and water resistance.
Sony 24-50 f2.8
This is my main lens that I use 90% of the time. The main selling point is the compact size, and the design which means it starts at 50mm on the short end and extend to 24mm on the long end. The travel between 50mm and 35mm is minimal. Since I shoot mostly between 35 and 50mm, this means the lens stays compact most of the time. I wrote a detailed blog on this lens here.
Sony 16-25 f2.8
This is my video lens and I seldom use it for photography.
Sigma 35mm f2
A 35mm fast prime is such a useful lens to have. I can use this in low light, or for portraits if I want more background separation. It’s small, light and is great for days where I don’t want a zoom.
Sigma 90mm f2.8
This is my telephoto lens for cities. It’s incredibly small yet still delivers decent enough image quality.
