The Best DJI Action Accessories For Travel & YouTube (Action 4, 5, 6, Nano)

In this blog I will share the accessories I use with my DJI Action cameras. I’ve been using DJI Action cameras to document my travels and make YouTube videos for a few years, and these are the accessories that have stood the test of time. These accessories work with all DJI Action cameras, however I can only comment on cameras from the DJI Action 4 and newer.

SmallRig Mount

This small magnetic mount by SmallRig does two jobs. It acts as a 3/8 screw mount for tripods, and as a traditional action camera mount with folding legs. It’s small, light, and incredibly useful.

Metal Screw

If you use the SmallRig mount, you will need screws to attach it to other action camera accessories. Most come with cheap plastic screws, therefore I recommend upgrading to aluminium ones for better durability and finish.

DJI Ball Head

DJI do a wonderful ball head that can be attached to any 3/8 screw. It’s small, light, and easy to adjust. I own two of them.

Magnetic Disk

You can buy a generic magnetic disk with a 3/8 thread. I use this in conjunction with the ball head for a very versatile mounting option.

DJI Suction Cup

This one came bundled with the DJI Nano, but you can get it or similar online. It’s a small suction cup with a 3/8 thread. I use it in conjunction with the DJI ball head to mount my camera on glass, plastic, and other non magnetic surfaces.

Magnetic Necklace

This one came bundled with the DJI Nano, but you can get it or similar online. It’s a necklace you can wear under your shirt and attach the camera to for a clean appearance. It’s great for those who need to film POV footage.

Magnetic Clip

This one also came bundled with the DJI Nano, but you can get it or similar online. It’s a small clip that can be attached to caps, straps, bags, or many other types of clothing. It’s great for getting different perspectives. This DJI version is also magnetic so it can be used with the Nano instead of the magnetic disk mentioned earlier. I say Nano because when using it with the DJI Action 6, the strength of the magnet isn’t quite enough.

Small Tripod

This can be any generic small tripod. I have one from an old gimbal and it works well with the DJI ball head. These are great for vlogging as they give you a solid handle while also allowing you to place the camera on a flat surface.

ND Filters

I wouldn’t say these are essential, and for most people they are unnecessary. However if you want the most natural looking footage when filming on bright sunny days, an ND filter can help reduce the shutter speed and add more natural motion blur to your footage. If you plan on shooting in full manual exposure, then it becomes a necessity.

Stick On Wind Socks

Cheap stick on wind protectors to cover your microphones. By far the best bang for your buck and they make a world of difference.

DJI Mic 2

If you want the best possible audio, I suggest investing in the DJI Mic kit. This is especially true if you want to be far away from your camera or record conversations. I still use the DJI Mic 2 because it can accept a lav microphone.

Anker Nano Power Bank / Spare Batteries

While the Action 6 comes with removable batteries, the Nano doesn’t, so I suggest picking up a small power bank for when you run out of juice. If you’re using the Action 6, then having an extra battery is not a bad idea either.
